Electrophysical Therapy

Electrophysical therapy is the application of electrical and physical forces to the body bringing about physiological changes for therapeutic purposes. Traction, Ultrasound, Interferential, TENS, Microcurrent, and Electrical Muscle Stimulation are widely used to relieve symptoms of somatic origins.

Different types of modalities:

  1. Traction (Neck and Back)

Traction is often used in treating neck and back problems. Pulling on the spine results in vertebral separation which decreases compression of nerve root. It is usually effective in relieving radiating pain, numbness and muscle weakness caused by nerve root compression.

Traction can also help to improve circulation, relax muscles, mobilize vertebral joints and reduce compression of inter-vertebral disc.

We have equipped a computerized Tru-Trac Traction Unit with traditional Cervical and Lumbar halter system, also a contemporary Saunders Cervical Traction Device that eliminates pressure on Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ), and provides additional comfort for clients with TMJ dysfunction.

  2. Ultrasound Therapy

It mainly reduces inflammation, improves circulation, promotes healing and increases the extensibility of soft tissues (e.g. muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia). It is generally used in soft tissue injury.

Ultrasound therapy employs a high frequency ultrasonic wave, which penetrates body tissues through conducting gel. With continuous output of ultrasound, mild heating to deeply placed and fibrous tissue structures (e.g. joint capsule) can be achieved and leads to further reduction of pain.

  3. IFT (Interferential Therapy)

It mainly reduces pain, relieves muscle spasms, improves circulation and re-educate muscles. Interferential therapy employs two medium-frequency alternating currents which penetrate body tissues in a clover-leaf pattern. The effect of anti-inflammation and pain relief at deeply placed structures is achieved by stimulating autonomic nerves through 2 or 4 moisted electrodes.

  4. TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation)

It mainly reduces pain. TENS employs low energy nerve-stimulating direct currents which have close proximity to the body's current. Mild muscle contraction is usually caused by the current.

  5. Microcurrent

It mainly reduces pain. Microcurrent employs low level currents which is similar to the current the body produces on its own in each cell. With enhanced cellular metabolism, microcurrent can speed up the healing process by increasing the rate of wound healing, protein synthesis, the regeneration of injured tissue, and lymphatic flow.

  6. EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation)

It mainly improves muscle strength and facilitates muscle control. EMS employs low-to-medium frequency currents which can stimulate motor nerve and increase muscle metabolism. EMS is generally used in muscle atrophy and muscle weakness rehabilitation.

We have equipped an Intelect Electrotherapy Advanced Combo which contains all the above therapeutic current and an identical Mobile Combo which can be carried to where you work and live!
